YOUR AUDIO. YOUR CHOICE.
Privacy, plainly.

This website
The public intro page does not capture audio, request microphone access, run analytics, or ask visitors to create an account. Its subtitle demonstration uses fixed example text and sends no audio to an AI service. The preview uses your browser’s language preference to suggest a subtitle language; it does not request your location or use a location lookup service. If you choose a preview language, that choice is saved only in your browser so it can be used on your next visit.
Firebase Hosting serves this site. Google may process technical request information to operate its infrastructure, as described in Google’s privacy policy.
Administrator access
A separate administrator page uses Firebase Authentication with Google sign-in. It processes the administrator’s Google account identifier and email to authenticate access. Firestore stores private project information and an administrator allowlist. Access is restricted by Firestore security rules. Administrator authentication is kept for the browser session and can be ended with Sign out.
The Submaker extension
The extension starts capturing the selected browser tab’s audio only after you choose Start subtitles. It uses tab audio, not your microphone. Audio is sent over an encrypted connection directly to Google Gemini or OpenAI for live transcription. Transcript text and up to three preceding original segments are sent through Submaker’s gateway to the selected provider for translation. The service can use either provider and may switch to the other if a request fails or a language is unsupported. OpenAI translation requests have response storage turned off.
The extension stores your preferences, your license keys and credit balance, and the most recently stopped transcript locally in the browser. The active session is held in browser session storage. It also uses the selected tab’s title, domain and favicon locally to identify the audio source. These are not sent to Submaker’s gateway. It does not save an audio recording.
The Submaker gateway
Submaker’s gateway runs on Google Cloud through Firebase, in the Tokyo region. It holds the speech provider’s API key, checks license keys with Polar, and counts credits as you use them. Audio goes from your browser directly to Google Gemini or OpenAI using a short-lived session token, so the gateway never receives audio. It receives subtitle text for translation and your license key for billing. It does not store audio or transcript text. For credit checks and abuse prevention, it stores a hashed license identifier, activation identifiers, paid-minute deadlines and request counters in private Firestore records. These records are not accessible to website visitors or extension content scripts. Operational logs include provider, source-language and error status information, without audio or transcript content. Google Cloud may process technical request information to operate and secure the service.
Stopping subtitles ends capture. Removing license keys in Submaker clears those keys and their cached balances. The latest stopped transcript is replaced after the next stopped session. Removing the extension clears its local preferences and stored transcript as well. To request deletion of associated gateway records, contact submakerservice@gmail.com with your purchase reference. Exported transcripts are files you control.
Payments
Polar processes purchases as merchant of record. Polar collects your email address and payment details, handles sales tax and VAT, and issues your license key. Submaker can see your email address, order and license key in Polar to provide credits and support, but never sees your full card details. Polar’s handling is described in Polar’s privacy policy.
Use of data
Submaker uses captured audio and transcript text to provide captions and translation. The current implementation has no advertising, analytics or sale of user data. Google and OpenAI also process requests under their own API terms and data-handling policies. See Google’s Gemini API terms and OpenAI’s data controls. Submaker does not itself use audio or transcripts for advertising, profiling or model training.
Contact and data use
For support, refunds or privacy requests, contact submakerservice@gmail.com. Use an order reference rather than sending a full license key. Submaker does not sell user data or use captured audio or transcripts for advertising. Its use and transfer of information received from Chrome APIs follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Service and account access
Credit purchases use Polar’s production checkout. Submaker does not require a user account: a license key provides access to purchased credits. Purchases started in the extension can be claimed automatically using a browser installation identifier and checkout identifier, which are kept locally until the purchase is claimed or expires. This policy will be updated when the service’s data handling changes.
